The Virtual Fitting Room can use two recommendation systems. They have different sources and different jobs.

Shopify catalog recommendations

When Use product recommendations is enabled on the Fitting Room app block, Looksy uses the products in the shopper’s current outfit as recommendation inputs. The catalog recommendation order is:
  1. complementary products configured through Shopify Search & Discovery;
  2. Shopify related-product recommendations when there are not enough complementary results;
  3. eligible products from the store’s collections when Shopify has too little recommendation data.
Looksy combines signals from the selected outfit, removes products already selected, and shows eligible products with usable imagery.
Use Shopify Search & Discovery when you want to influence which catalog products Shopify considers complementary. These are Shopify merchandising signals; they do not create a Looksy discount or offer.

Merchant-curated Looksy recommendations

Looksy’s Recommendations manager in Fitting Room lets you create a specific recommended look and, when required, an associated offer. You can start from templates including:
  • Complete the look;
  • Recommended for you;
  • Mix & match;
  • Buy X, get Y;
  • Quantity breaks;
  • Progressive gifts.
In the editor, choose which try-on products trigger the recommendation, then choose the products to recommend. A trigger can target specific products, collections, or all eligible products. The editor also supports recommendation content, offer bars, discount settings, active dates, market visibility, B2B exclusions, variant behaviour, and presentation styles. Review the preview before saving.
A saved recommendation is not the same as a Shopify Search & Discovery recommendation. Merchant-curated Looksy recommendations use the products, targeting, visibility, offer, and styles saved in Looksy. Shopify catalog recommendations remain the fallback merchandising layer when no eligible Looksy recommendation applies.

Keep the other “Complete the Look” separate

Looksy also has a product-page Complete the Look shopper feature that can show a small related-product rail after a successful try-on. That feature is separate from the Fitting Room recommendation manager described here.
