Live video try-on
Live video try-on is a virtual try-on method that shows a product on the shopper in real time through their device camera, so they see it move as they move. It differs from photo try-on, where the shopper uploads a single picture and receives a still image back. Because it works from a continuous camera feed, it needs camera permission and a reasonably capable device, which is why many apps treat it as a premium feature.
How it differs from photo try-on
Photo try-on works from one uploaded image and returns a still result the shopper can retry, download or share. Live video try-on renders the product frame by frame on a moving camera feed, so the shopper sees drape and angle change as they turn, without taking new pictures. Video is much heavier to run, which is why apps offering both usually price it higher or reserve it for their top tier.
What it asks of the shopper
Live video needs the shopper to grant camera access in their browser, and results depend on lighting and device performance. Some shoppers will decline that permission on principle, so a store offering live video should keep photo upload as the fallback — it works from a single picture and needs no camera at all. In a browser-based tool the try-on runs on the product page itself, with nothing for the shopper to install.
Live video try-on in Looksy
Looksy offers realtime video try-on on its Scale plan at $79 a month, which includes 600 credits usable for either photo or video try-ons. Every other plan is photo-only: the shopper uploads one photo and sees the result on the product page, with no live camera involved. Looksy publishes no conversion figures for video versus photo — the honest comparison is your own add-to-cart rate in Looksy’s analytics before and after switching.
