What is realtime video try-on?

Realtime video try-on shows a product on the shopper in live, moving video instead of a single still image. It runs in the browser on the product page and is part of Looksy’s Scale plan at $79 a month.

How it differs from photo try-on

With photo try-on, a shopper uploads one photo and gets a still image of themselves wearing the product. Realtime video try-on replaces the still with a live, moving view: the shopper opens their camera in the browser and sees the product rendered on themselves as they move. Both run on the product page — no app download and no account. The practical difference is motion. A still answers “does this suit me”; live video adds how a product sits as you turn your head or shift position, which matters more for some products than others.

What the shopper does on the product page

Live video runs in the same place as photo try-on: the product page, in the browser. Because it is live, the browser asks the shopper for camera permission — the one extra step video adds. Photo try-on never needs that permission; it works from a single uploaded photo. Once the camera is on, the shopper sees themselves with the product in real time and can move, turn and check it from different angles. Nothing to install, no account to create. A shopper who declines camera access is not stuck — photo try-on remains available, so video extends the experience rather than replacing it.

The plan that includes it

Realtime video try-on is a Scale plan feature. Scale is $79 a month and comes with 600 credits that can be spent on either photo or video try-ons from a single pool, with additional credits at $0.10 each and no cap on the additional revenue Looksy can generate for the store. The Free, Starter and Growth plans are photo-only. If you are weighing up plans, the question is simple: do your products benefit from being seen in motion? If not, a photo-only plan does the same job for less.

When photo try-on is enough

Most stores do not need video on day one. A still image answers the main pre-purchase question — how does this look on me — and photo try-on is available on the Free plan, so it is the sensible starting point. Video earns its cost where movement changes the buying decision: garments with drape and flow, pieces shoppers instinctively want to see from several angles before they commit. If your products look much the same in motion as they do in a still, video adds cost without adding information. Start with photo, watch what shoppers actually use, then decide whether motion is worth the upgrade.
