What happens to try-on during a traffic spike?
Mostly arithmetic. On Free, try-ons stay unlimited; on paid plans, a spike consumes included credits faster, and additional credits are priced at $0.14, $0.12, or $0.10 depending on plan, billed usage-based through Shopify.
How credits absorb a surge on paid plans
On paid plans, a spike shows up as faster credit consumption. Starter includes 100 photo try-on credits, Growth includes 300, and Scale includes 600 photo or video credits. Beyond those allotments, the listing prices additional credits at $0.14 on Starter, $0.12 on Growth, and $0.10 on Scale, billed usage-based through Shopify with no contracts. Credit use tracks try-ons actually generated, not raw visits, so the cost of a busy day depends on how many shoppers use the feature, not how many land on the page. Check in-app how additional credits are applied once the included balance runs out.
Why the Free plan runs a different meter
The Free plan includes unlimited try-ons, so a spike never exhausts a credit balance. Its limits sit elsewhere: the listing caps Free at up to $100 of additional revenue, and the try-on carries Looksy branding. A surge is exactly when that cap can arrive quickly, because it counts revenue rather than time — a busy day compresses a month’s worth of orders into hours. If a launch or press moment is coming while you are on Free, check where you stand against the cap in the app or with Looksy support, and consider whether Starter’s $500 cap, Growth’s $1,000, or Scale’s unlimited additional revenue fits the month.
What to confirm before a planned launch
The listing describes the normal shopper flow — one uploaded photo, a result on the product page in about 20 seconds — but it publishes nothing about behavior under unusually heavy load, and Looksy makes no public capacity or uptime statements. If a specific event matters to you, ask Looksy support through the App Store listing before the day. In-app, check your current credit balance, confirm the additional-credit price on your plan, and confirm what happens when included credits run out, so any extra spend is a number you chose rather than a surprise. Billing runs through Shopify, so charges appear on your regular Shopify bill.
Turning spike traffic into data and email
After the event, Looksy’s analytics show what shoppers tried on, what they added to cart, and what they bought — evidence of whether spike visitors actually engaged with try-on, and on which products. That is the input for right-sizing your plan before the next surge. On Starter and above, email capture is available, feeding addresses into Klaviyo or Shopify Flow, so a one-day surge can leave behind a follow-up list rather than just a usage line on the bill. Between analytics and capture, a spike becomes preparation for the next launch instead of a one-off.
