Can shoppers try on pre-order products?
In principle, yes: try-on works from product imagery, not inventory, so a pre-order listing with product images can offer it like any other page. Looksy publishes no pre-order-specific behavior, though, so preview your exact setup before promoting a launch.
Try-on runs on imagery, not inventory
Looksy’s photo try-on takes one uploaded shopper photo and renders the product on them in about 20 seconds, working from the product images on the listing. Nothing in that flow depends on the item being in stock or shipped — the same imagery you use to sell the pre-order powers the try-on. That makes pre-orders a natural fit in principle: if your photography is good enough to list the product, you have what try-on needs. One caution: if you shot samples or prototypes, make sure they match the final production item, because the result shoppers see is built from those images.
What to verify on your pre-order setup
Pre-orders on Shopify take several forms — native selling plans, third-party pre-order apps, or an out-of-stock template with a modified buy button — and Looksy does not publish pre-order-specific behavior. Before promoting try-on on a launch, preview the pre-order product page with the try-on block in your theme editor and confirm it renders and behaves normally alongside your pre-order app or template. If anything conflicts, Looksy provides app support plus FAQ, tutorial, and documentation resources; ask directly how the widget interacts with your particular setup before the campaign goes live.
Why try-on helps before the product ships
A pre-order asks shoppers to commit money to something they cannot receive yet, so doubt about fit or look weighs heavier than on an in-stock purchase. Letting shoppers see the item on their own photo answers the will-it-suit-me question at the moment of commitment, and Size Help, which draws on your own product size charts, gives them a size answer before the shipping wait begins. Shoppers can also retry a try-on, download the result, and share it — useful visibility for a product that does not physically exist in anyone’s wardrobe yet.
Following up with shoppers who hesitate
Some shoppers will try on a pre-order item and still hesitate to pay weeks before shipping. Looksy’s Email Follow-Up collects emails from try-on sessions and connects to Klaviyo and Shopify Flow, so those shoppers become a list you can contact when the product ships or restocks. Which events can trigger a flow, and how you would time a ship-date reminder, are details to confirm in the app and in your Klaviyo or Flow configuration — but turning shoppers who tried on without buying into a launch-day audience is a natural fit for pre-orders.
