Does virtual try-on work for bags and handbags?

Test it on your own bags before deciding. Looksy's Free plan includes unlimited photo try-ons, so you can run your best-sellers through the exact flow shoppers use and see whether the results earn a place on your product pages.

The question bag photos can't answer: scale

The biggest uncertainty with bags is scale. A handbag shot alone on a white background comes with dimensions in the description, but few shoppers can translate 28 by 20 centimeters into how the bag will read against their own frame. Is the tote oversized or sensible, does the crossbody sit like a wallet on a strap, will the clutch vanish in hand. Dimensions answer none of this intuitively, because proportion is judged visually, and a solo product photo removes the one reference that matters — a body. That gap is what a try-on image exists to close.

What a try-on image can show — and what stays in the description

A try-on result is generated from a photo of the shopper, so when the bag renders at believable scale it restores the missing reference: the bag's size against their build, how the color reads next to their clothing, whether the shape suits them. Keep the hard specs in the description anyway. Interior capacity, strap drop, pocket layout, and whether a laptop fits are questions no image answers, and a shopper deciding between two sizes of the same style still needs the measurements. The image speaks to 'how does it look on me'; the description settles 'does it hold what I carry'. Together they cover the decision.

How to test your bags on the Free plan

The Free plan's unlimited try-ons make this a zero-cost experiment. Enable a spread of your catalog — a tote, a crossbody, a clutch, a shoulder bag — and upload photos that show enough of the body to judge scale, since a tightly cropped headshot gives the result nothing to work with. Each render takes about 20 seconds, shoppers need no app, account, or camera permission, and you can retry any result that misses. Pay attention to whether carry position looks natural for each style; Looksy publishes no bag-specific model behavior, so your own eyes on your own products are the test.

Colorways, variants, and a careful rollout

Handbags live and die by colorway, so before going live, select a variant on the product page and check whether the try-on follows the selected variant image. Looksy doesn't publish how variant images are handled, and for a bag sold in five colors the difference between rendering the chosen shade and rendering the default is the difference between a useful preview and a confusing one. Once you're satisfied, start with best-sellers rather than the full catalog, then use the built-in analytics to see what shoppers try on, add to cart, and buy — and let that data drive which bags get enabled next.
