What happens to a shopper’s photo in virtual try-on?
A shopper uploads a photo so the try-on can be generated. What happens to it afterwards is set by each app’s privacy policy and data processing terms — read them, and check they match what your own store policy promises shoppers.
Why this is your responsibility, not only the app’s
Your shoppers are handing a photo to a feature on your store. As far as they are concerned, it is your store asking. That makes the app’s data handling part of your store’s privacy posture whatever the contractual position between you and the developer happens to be.
The questions to ask before you install
Ask how long uploaded photos are retained, where they are processed and stored, whether they are used to train models, who inside the company can access them, and how a shopper can request deletion. Get the answers from a published policy or in writing from the developer — not from a marketing page, and not from us summarising a competitor.
Match it against your own policy
If your store’s privacy policy does not currently mention image uploads or third-party image processing, adding any try-on app is the moment to update it. Requirements vary by region and by the kind of data involved, and this is a place to take actual legal advice rather than a vendor’s summary of the rules.
Hold Looksy to the same questions
Looksy’s privacy policy and terms are published on this site and linked in the footer, and the Shopify App Store requires every app to complete a data-access disclosure on its listing. Read both, ask us the questions above, and apply the same standard to every app you are comparing us against.
