How do I measure virtual try-on ROI?

Take the additional revenue Looksy attributes to try-on sessions, set it against your plan fee plus any extra credits, then sanity-check with a cohort comparison. Looksy publishes no ROI benchmarks — the honest answer is a method, not a figure.

The revenue side: what Looksy attributes

Looksy’s Analytics shows what shoppers try on, what they add to cart and what they buy. The plans are also defined in terms of additional revenue — capped at $100 on Free, $500 on Starter, $1,000 on Growth, uncapped on Scale — so the app tracks the revenue it attributes to try-on sessions, and that figure is your numerator. Treat it as attributed revenue, though, not proven incremental revenue: a shopper who tried an item on might have bought it anyway. Attribution is the starting point; the sections below deal with the gap.

The cost side: plan fee plus extra credits

Costs are simpler: your monthly plan fee plus any credits bought beyond your plan’s allowance, at a per-credit rate between $0.10 and $0.14 depending on tier. Billing is monthly only — there is no annual contract to amortise — and installation is a theme app extension, not a build project. Add up the months you are evaluating and that total is your denominator. On the Free plan the fee is zero and try-ons are unlimited, so the question shifts from ROI to whether the additional revenue you see justifies upgrading once you reach the $100 cap.

Why the naive comparison flatters the app

Shoppers who bother to upload a photo are already your most engaged visitors, so comparing their conversion rate with everyone else’s overstates what try-on caused. Two honest corrections. First, compare like with like: try-on users against shoppers who viewed the same products without trying. Second, compare the weeks before you enabled try-on with the weeks after, on the same products, allowing for seasonality and promotions. If your theme setup lets you place the try-on block on only some product templates, a catalogue split is cleaner still. Numbers that survive those checks are real; numbers that only appear in the naive comparison are not.

Why we publish no benchmark, and what to track instead

A single figure would mislead more stores than it helps. Results depend on category, price point, traffic volume and how prominent the try-on button is, and Looksy launched in December 2025 — the honest sample is still small. Track four things monthly: how many product views become try-ons, how many try-ons lead to an add-to-cart, additional revenue against total cost, and, over several months, return rates on try-on orders from your own Shopify data. Low-traffic stores need patience — with few orders, one large purchase swings the maths — so judge trends over months, not weeks.
