How does try-on work with product variants?
Looksy's listing doesn't document how variant selection maps to the product image a try-on uses. Check it yourself on the Free plan's unlimited try-ons: select each colorway, run a try-on with the same photo, compare results.
Why variant handling matters for colorways
A shopper who selects the rust colorway and gets a try-on result showing the black one has been given a wrong answer, and wrong answers erode the trust that makes try-on useful. For apparel stores, colorways are usually the highest-stakes variant: size and material rarely change the image, but color always does. Before you rely on try-on for multi-colorway products, you need to know one thing the App Store listing doesn't state: whether the generated result follows the variant image the shopper has selected or defaults to another image on the product.
What Looksy publishes about how results are generated
The listing describes the photo flow, not variant logic. A shopper uploads one photo, and the result appears on the product page in about 20 seconds, with options to retry, leave feedback, download, or share. It also states what makes generation work well: clear, product-focused photos produce the best results, and full views beat cropped shots for apparel. That guidance applies per image — so if each variant has its own clean, full-view photo, whichever image the try-on uses has good source material. What's absent is any statement about image-per-variant selection, which is why testing matters.
How to test variant behavior on the Free plan
The Free plan includes unlimited try-ons, so this test is free and takes minutes. Pick a product with distinct colorways, select the first variant, run a try-on, and note which colorway appears in the result. Switch to the second variant and repeat with the identical photo, so the only change is the selection. Do this for a few products, on mobile as well as desktop. If results consistently follow the selected variant, you can enable multi-colorway products with confidence; if they don't, you know before a shopper does.
Setting up variant images so results hold up
Whatever the test shows, strong variant images help. Give each colorway its own clear, product-focused photo — full view for apparel — so any image the try-on draws from meets the listing's stated quality guidance. If your test shows results not following the selected variant, contact Looksy support with the product and steps to reproduce; current behavior may differ from what you can infer, and support can confirm it directly. Until you have that answer, start with products where every variant looks right in testing, and expand from there as behavior is confirmed.
