Does virtual try-on reduce returns?
It is widely claimed and the mechanism is plausible, but we do not publish a returns figure for Looksy, because we do not have one we would stand behind. Measure it on your own store.
Why the claim is plausible
A large share of fashion returns come down to fit, and to the piece not looking the way the shopper pictured it. A shopper who has seen the product on themselves before checkout is guessing less about both. That is a reasonable mechanism, and it is why the claim gets made so often.
Why we are not giving you a number
Figures in this category get repeated far past the study that produced them, and those studies rarely match your catalog, price point or customer. We could quote an industry number. It would not be about your store. Looksy launched in December 2025 and holds 4.6 out of 5 from 6 reviews on the Shopify App Store — that is the honest extent of what we can point at today, and inventing a returns statistic on top of it would tell you nothing true.
How to measure it on your own store
Enable try-on on one product category and leave a comparable category alone. Give it a full return window plus a few weeks, then compare the return rate on enabled products against the control over the same period. Watch order volume too, because a change in product mix can move return rate without try-on having done anything.
What to ask of anyone’s numbers
Ask what the baseline was, over what period, on which products, and who ran the comparison. A claim missing those four things is marketing. That applies to ours as much as to anyone else’s, which is why we are not making one.
