Do shoppers need to download an app to use virtual try-on?

No. Looksy runs on your product page in the browser. A shopper uploads one photo and sees the piece on themselves — no app download, no account to create, and no live camera permission prompt.

Why this matters more than it sounds

Every step between a shopper and the thing they want costs you some of them. An app download is a large step. Creating an account is a large step. A browser flow that starts and finishes on the product page keeps the shopper where the buy button is, which is the entire point of putting try-on there.

Photo upload versus live camera

Some try-on tools are camera-based and ask for live camera access. That suits real-time AR placement, particularly for eyewear and jewelry, but it adds a permission prompt and a moment of hesitation. Looksy is photo-based: the shopper uploads one image, or reuses one they have already used, and gets a result back.

What the shopper actually does

They open a product page, choose the try-on entry point, upload one photo, and see the product on themselves. That is the whole flow. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for, and nothing that takes them away from the page they were about to buy from.

What to test before you launch

Run the flow yourself on a phone, not just a laptop, because most of your traffic is mobile. Check how the entry point looks on a product page with a long image gallery, and confirm the result is legible at phone width. Output quality on a small screen is what your shoppers will actually judge.
