Can I preview try-on before publishing it to shoppers?
Yes. Looksy is added as a theme app extension in Shopify’s theme editor, and the editor works on unpublished themes. Duplicate your live theme, add and position the try-on block, preview it, and publish only when you are satisfied.
Unpublished themes are Shopify’s built-in staging
Every Shopify store can hold multiple themes, but shoppers only ever see the published one. Duplicating your live theme gives you an unpublished copy you can edit freely in the theme editor, with a preview that reflects changes as you make them. Unpublished themes also have shareable preview links, so a teammate can look at the staged version from their own browser. Nothing reaches shoppers until you click publish, which swaps the staged theme in and keeps the old one available if you need to switch back.
Adding the try-on block to a staging theme
Looksy installs as a theme app extension, which means the try-on block is added and positioned inside the theme editor rather than by editing theme code. Open the editor on your unpublished theme, add the block to a product page template, and move it until it sits where you want relative to the gallery, price, and add-to-cart button. Because no code is touched, the change stays contained: the block exists only where you placed it, and uninstalling later leaves no leftover snippets in the theme.
What the editor preview does and does not prove
The editor preview is reliable for layout: placement, spacing, and how the block sits at desktop and mobile widths. It is not a substitute for running the actual flow. Whether a full try-on — photo upload through the roughly 20-second result — behaves identically inside the editor preview is not something Looksy publishes, so run a real test on the preview link and check the App Documentation if anything differs. On the Free plan try-ons are unlimited; on paid plans photo try-ons draw from credits, so confirm in-app how test runs are counted before testing heavily.
Publishing, and undoing it if needed
When the staged theme looks right, publish it from the admin’s theme library; the swap takes effect right away, and your previous theme stays in the library, so you can republish it if something looks off in production. If you decide against try-on entirely, remove the block in the editor or uninstall the app — Looksy’s listing notes a clean uninstall with no theme code edits to unwind.
